A blind covers a window. A curtain changes the room.
It's the softness — fabric breaks up hard architectural lines, absorbs sound, and makes a space feel finished in a way that nothing hard-edged manages. In a modern Gold Coast home with a lot of glass and tile, that matters more than people expect.
They're also the best-performing thing you can hang for heat and noise. A lined blockout curtain will make a measurable difference to both.
The catch is that fabric is genuinely hard to choose from a photo. Colour shifts under different light, and weight and drape don't come across on a screen at all. That's why we bring samples to your house and hold them against your own window in your own light.

Sheer Curtains
Bright and calm, not exposed
Sheers are the reason a room feels bright and calm rather than exposed. They diffuse harsh Queensland sun into something soft, keep the view, and give you daytime privacy from the street without shutting anything out.
Most homes run them as the day layer, with blockouts behind for night. On a big window that combination is hard to beat.

Blockout Curtains
Lined, heavy, and built to stop light
Bedrooms are the obvious application, but they earn their keep in living rooms too — a properly lined blockout curtain cuts heat coming through the glass and takes the edge off outside noise.
The lining is where the quality is. Cheap blockout curtains are cheap because of what's behind the fabric.
Wave Fold Curtains
A heading style, not a fabric
Wave fold curtains hang from a concealed track in continuous, even S-curves — no pinch pleats, no gathered top, just a clean uniform wave from one end to the other.
It's the current standard in contemporary homes, and it works in both sheer and blockout. Stacks back tighter than traditional headings too, so you lose less of the window.

Running sheers and blockouts together
The setup we install most often, on a double track.
Sheers at the front
Closed through the day. Light comes through soft, the view stays, and nobody's looking in from the street.
Blockouts behind
Drawn at night, or when a room needs to be dark and cool.
You end up with genuine control over the room instead of a single all-or-nothing layer. It's more expensive than one set of curtains, but it's the difference between a window treatment and a room that works.
Hardware
Tracks, rods and pelmets
Concealed tracks
Recessed into the ceiling so the curtain appears to come straight out of it. The cleanest look, and the standard for wave fold.
Face-fixed tracks
Mounted to the wall or ceiling. Practical and cost-effective. Can be covered with a pelmet.
Decorative rods
Visible timber or metal rods with rings. Suits traditional and Hamptons-style interiors.
Pelmets
A cover over the top of the track. Looks tidier and traps a pocket of air, which measurably improves heat performance.
Motorised tracks
Worth it on very wide runs and high windows. Runs off a remote, an app or a home automation system.
Fabric
Choosing fabric
Four things decide it, roughly in this order.
Light
How much do you want, and when? This is the single biggest question and it determines sheer versus blockout before anything else.
Weight and drape
Heavier fabric hangs in deeper, more sculptural folds. Lighter fabric moves and feels more relaxed. Neither is better — it depends on the room.
Colour
Almost always goes wrong when chosen from a screen. Fabric reads warmer or cooler depending on your light and your wall colour. This is what the samples are for.
Practicality
Kids, pets, direct sun and salt air all shorten the life of the wrong fabric. We'll tell you which ones won't last in your situation.

How much do custom curtains cost on the Gold Coast?
More variable than blinds, because fabric price ranges enormously. A sheer on a standard window is a few hundred dollars; a lined blockout in a premium fabric across a large opening is well into the thousands. The measure and quote is free and itemised, so you can see where the money's going.
What's the difference between sheer and blockout curtains?
Sheers filter light and give daytime privacy while keeping the view. Blockouts are lined and stop light entirely, and also help with heat and noise. Many homes run both on a double track.
What is a wave fold curtain?
A heading style where the curtain hangs from a concealed track in even, continuous S-shaped waves rather than pinch pleats or a gathered top. It's the standard look in contemporary homes and works in both sheer and blockout fabric.
Do curtains help with heat?
Yes, more than most people realise. A lined blockout curtain with a pelmet is one of the more effective things you can do about heat coming through glass — better than most blinds.
Can I get curtains and blinds on the same window?
Often the best answer. Sheer curtains for softness with a blockout roller behind for darkness is a very common combination, and usually cheaper than double curtains.
How do I clean custom curtains?
Depends on the fabric — some are washable, most are better dry cleaned. We'll tell you which yours are when they go in, and it's worth factoring into the fabric choice up front.
