Roller blinds
If you're fitting out a whole house and want one product that works nearly everywhere, it's roller blinds. They're simple, they're the cheapest way to get a genuinely custom fit, and the fabric range means the same blind can do completely different jobs in different rooms.
The decision that actually matters isn't the blind — it's the fabric.
Fabric types
Stops essentially all light. Bedrooms, nurseries, media rooms, and anywhere you're working against early Queensland sunrises. Pair it with side channels and you'll get close to total darkness — without them, expect some light spill around the edges.
Also the best performer for heat, and a noticeable difference to noise.
Best for: bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms.
The one most people don't know to ask for. A finely woven mesh that blocks the majority of heat and glare while you can still see through it. You keep the view, you lose the squint, and your furniture stops fading.
Comes in different openness factors — a tighter weave gives more privacy and less view, a more open one the reverse. We'll bring samples so you can hold them up against your own window.
Worth knowing: sunscreen gives daytime privacy only. After dark, with the lights on, people can see in.
Best for: west-facing living rooms, home offices and anywhere with a view worth keeping.
Between the two. Softens and diffuses the light without going dark, and gives full privacy day and night. Good for living areas and street-facing rooms where you want brightness but not an audience.
Best for: street-facing living areas, kitchens and bathrooms.
Double rollers
Two blinds on one bracket — usually sunscreen at the front and blockout behind. Sunscreen down through the day for glare and heat with the view intact, blockout down at night for privacy and darkness.
It's the setup we recommend most often for bedrooms and main living areas. It costs more than a single blind but does two jobs properly instead of one job as a compromise.
Best for: bedrooms and main living areas — anywhere you need the window to do two different jobs.
Options
Motorisation is worth it on high or hard-to-reach windows, and on any run of blinds you'd be doing one at a time each morning.
A cassette hides the rolled fabric behind a neat headbox. Open roll is cheaper and works fine when the blind sits inside a recess.
Aluminium tracks down each side that block edge light. Only worth it with blockout fabric, and only where you really want it dark.
All our chain-operated blinds come with safety devices meeting Australian standards. Motorised removes the cord entirely — worth considering with small children.

Bedroom
Blockout, ideally double with sunscreen. Side channels if you want it properly dark.
Living room
Sunscreen — or double if it faces west.
Kitchen
Light filtering or sunscreen. Easy to wipe down.
Bathroom
Light filtering in a moisture-resistant fabric.
Home office
Sunscreen. Kills screen glare without making the room a cave.
Media room
Blockout with side channels.
Good to know
A standard-sized roller in a basic fabric starts in the low hundreds per window. Blockout, cassettes, side channels and motorisation each add to it. Doing a whole house at once usually works out better per window.
Blockout if the priority is darkness or privacy at night. Sunscreen if it's heat and glare and you want to keep the view. Plenty of people end up doing both on the same window with a double bracket.
Usually yes, as long as the recess is deep enough for the rolled fabric — we check this at the measure. Inside-mount looks neater; outside-mount blocks more light around the edges.
Wipe with a damp cloth. Most fabrics are dust-resistant and won't need more than that. Don't put them in water and don't scrub them.
Chain-operated blinds come with cord safety devices as standard. If you've got small children, motorised blinds remove the cord altogether and are worth the extra.
